Faro Airport is the 'gateway' to the Algarve. The airport is split into two different areas: the arrivals/departures hall and the departures lounge. There are also a reasonable collection of facilities at the airport. Within the main arrivals hall there are the main desks for the Algarve car hire companies, an informative and staffed Algarve Tourist Information office, Vodafone shop, seating areas, multi-banco machines as well as a couple of coffee shops. If you head up stairs from the arrivals hall you will also find a large coffee shop and separate seating area overlooking the arrivals hall. In the main departures hall you will find a sweet stall, a coffee shop, a newspaper and book store that sells all the main daily newspapers from many countries around the world. The UK papers on sale in Portugal are no longer a day out of date there are the same day.
Within the main departure lounge once through security you will find a large "Duty Free" store with the usual goods and souvenirs. There are a number of fast food outlets including baguettes, burgers and pizza as well as airport cafe and coffee/drinks bar. In addition, there are a number of shops including Hugo Boss, a Portuguese handcraft, a Portuguese wine and food shop, a small sports souvenir store and another newspaper store.
The car parks are well signposted and easy to find. There are actually a number of different car parks at Faro Airport and the main ones are the short term departure car park, the short term arrivals car park and the long term car park. If you need to get petrol or diesel for your car you will find a large Cespa Garage on the roundabout as you approach Faro Airport. Unlike the UK there are no "Off Site" car parks at Faro offering cheap long term parking. However the rates for long term parking at Faro Airport are not as high as in the UK anyway. If you expect to be less than 30 minutes then head for the P1 car park which has a only a 30 minute charge. For further information about the airport visit http://www.faroairportguide.com/
All the main low cost airlines fly to Faro from the UK along with the larger companies such as British Airways and the Portuguese National Carrier TAP Portugal. It may surprise you to find that these last two airlines offer some really good deals. For all flight details arriving and departing from Faro visit http://www.ana.pt/portal/page/portal/ANA/
