The beaches in this area are ideal for surfing and body-boarding and Arrifana in particular is said to be one of the top 200 surfing beaches in the world. There are a small number of restaurants and bars in Vale da Telha and you will find a local market in nearby Aljezur where you can purchase fresh fish and locally grown vegetables and fruit. Sagres is a small, quiet town close to Cape St Vincent, the most south-westerly point of Portugal and Europe. Here you will find an impressive lighthouse that provides a powerful guiding beam directing hundreds of ships safely passed the Cape every year. The surrounding cliffs present a very dramatic sight with their impressive height and the vast Atlantic Ocean thrashing down below. There are a number of little cafes, bars and restaurants to be found in Sagres. Close to the centre, is a little square called Praca da Republica, where visitors of many nationalities sit and watch the world go by. From the lighthouse, there are amazing views and it is a wonderful place to sit and look out over the sea and ponder over the extraordinary adventurers who have passed this way. Later on in the day, people often gather here to watch the spectacular sunsets.
