Luz is located in the West Algarve region and is situated between the popular resorts of Lagos and Burgau. Praia da Luz (Beach of Light) is a resort developed around the old fishing vilage. The beach is a Blue Flag beach and as well as clear waters and golden sands you will find remnants of volcanic activity at the far end of the beach-this is known as the Rocha Negra or Black Rock area. It is close to this area that is said to be a great location for surfers. There is also a range of watersports available on the beach. If you prefer to take in some history then visit the church Nossa Senhora da Luz. This church was badly damaged in the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 but has been restored and it is from this church that the village takes it’s name.
